In character mode “Hello world” becomes “dlrow olleH” and “stressed” becomes “desserts”, while a palindrome such as “racecar” reads the same both ways. In word mode “one two three” becomes “three two one”.
Character mode reverses Unicode code points, keeping every character including line breaks. Word mode splits the text wherever there is whitespace, reverses the list and joins the words with single spaces.
Because word mode rejoins with single spaces, extra spaces, tabs and line breaks between words are not preserved. Reversing does not mirror letters or create right-to-left text: languages such as Arabic and Hebrew are already displayed right to left by the browser.
Choose whether to reverse the order of characters or the order of words. In character mode, “Hello world” becomes “dlrow olleH”, and “stressed” becomes “desserts”. A palindrome such as “racecar” reads the same both ways, so reversing it is a quick way to check one. In word mode, the words keep their spelling and only their order changes: “one two three” becomes “three two one”. The result can be copied for puzzles, games, testing text layouts or simple fun.
Word mode splits the text wherever there is whitespace, reverses the list and joins the words with single spaces. Extra spaces, tabs and line breaks between words are therefore not preserved: “one two three” with uneven spacing still becomes “three two one”. Punctuation stays attached to the word it touches, so “Hello, world!” becomes “world! Hello,”. Reverse each line separately if you need to keep line structure, or use character mode, which keeps every character including line breaks.
Character mode reverses Unicode code points. Most letters reverse cleanly, but characters built from several code points may separate: the thumbs-up with a skin-tone modifier in “ab👍🏽” comes out as the modifier followed by the thumb, which can display as two symbols. Letters typed with separate combining accents can move the accent onto a different letter. Reversing does not mirror letters or create true right-to-left text; languages such as Arabic and Hebrew are already displayed right to left by the browser.
