Salary Calculator

Turn an hourly wage into weekly, monthly and annual gross pay, with paid weeks and part-time hours taken into account.

Calculations happen locally. We do not send your values to our server.

Example

At 25 an hour for 40 hours a week over 52 paid weeks, gross pay is 1,000 a week, 52,000 a year and 4,333.33 a month on average. A 37.5-hour week at 18.50 comes to 693.75 a week and 36,075 a year.

Calculation method

Weekly pay is the hourly wage multiplied by the weekly hours. Annual pay is that weekly figure multiplied by the number of paid weeks, and the monthly figure is annual pay divided by 12, so it is an average rather than the amount on any single payslip.

Important notes

Every figure is gross pay before income tax, social insurance, pension contributions and other deductions, and one rate is applied to every hour. Overtime premiums, shift allowances, tips, bonuses and commission have to be added separately, and unpaid weeks should be removed from the weeks count.

From hourly wage to annual gross pay

Enter the hourly wage, the hours worked in a normal week and the number of paid weeks per year. At 25 per hour for 40 hours, weekly pay is 1,000, annual pay over 52 weeks is 52,000 and the monthly average is 4,333.33. A 37.5-hour week at 18.50 gives 693.75 a week and 36,075 a year. The results are gross pay before any tax, social insurance, pension or other deductions.

Paid weeks, part time and monthly averages

Reduce the paid weeks if some weeks are unpaid: the same 25 per hour and 40 hours over 50 paid weeks gives 50,000 instead of 52,000. Halving the hours to 20 per week halves pay to 26,000. The monthly figure is annual pay divided by 12, so it is an average; people paid weekly or every two weeks receive some months with more pay dates than others. Paid holidays that are included in your wage should stay in the weeks count.

What this estimate leaves out

The calculator applies one rate to every hour. Overtime premiums, shift allowances, tips, bonuses and commissions need to be added separately, and the Overtime Calculator handles extra hours at a higher rate. It works in any currency: 1,500 per hour for 40 hours over 52 weeks is 3,120,000 a year, or 260,000 a month on average. Take-home pay depends on local tax and deduction rules, so use an official payroll or tax calculator for net income.

Frequently asked questions

Does this show take-home pay?

No, only gross pay. Tax bands, social insurance and allowances differ by country and by person, so net pay cannot be worked out from a wage alone. Treat the 52,000 in the example as the figure before any deduction, and use an official payroll or tax calculator for net income.

How do I handle unpaid leave?

Lower the paid weeks. The same 25 an hour for 40 hours over 50 paid weeks gives 50,000 instead of 52,000, the difference being two weeks of pay. Paid holidays stay in the count because you are paid for them. Part-time hours work the same way: 20 hours a week at 25 gives 500 a week and 26,000 a year.

Does the currency matter?

No. Nothing is converted, so the results come out in whatever currency you enter and the arithmetic is identical at any scale: 1,500 an hour for 40 hours over 52 weeks is 60,000 a week, 3,120,000 a year and 260,000 a month on average. For hours paid at a higher rate, use the Overtime Calculator instead.
