Shuffle a list of names into random teams whose sizes never differ by more than one person.
Example
Ten people in three teams become teams of 4, 3 and 3; seven people in two teams become 4 and 3; twelve people in four teams become four teams of 3.
Calculation method
The whole list is shuffled with secure randomness, then names are dealt round-robin into the teams, which keeps the headcounts within one of each other. When sizes cannot be equal, the extra people go to the first teams listed.
Important notes
Teams are balanced only by headcount: skill, age, experience and who ends up with whom are not considered. The number of teams cannot exceed the number of names, blank lines are ignored, and the names are processed in your browser and never stored.
Balanced headcount, random members
Paste one name per line and choose the number of teams. The whole list is shuffled with secure randomness, then names are dealt round-robin into the teams, so team sizes never differ by more than one person. Ten people in three teams become teams of 4, 3 and 3; seven people in two teams become 4 and 3; twelve people in four teams become four teams of 3. When sizes cannot be equal, the extra people go to the first teams listed.
Planning uneven numbers
Before generating, check that the numbers suit the activity. Twenty-three players in five teams become 5, 5, 5, 4 and 4, which may be fine for a quiz but awkward for a sport that needs equal sides. You can add a placeholder name such as “Substitute” to reach an even total, or change the number of teams. The number of teams cannot exceed the number of names, and blank lines are ignored so they do not create empty places.
What the tool does not balance
Teams are balanced only by headcount. Skill, age, experience or which friends end up together are not considered, so a random split can occasionally put several strong players on one side. For classes or matches where fairness matters, generate teams and then swap a few names by agreement, or divide the list into skill groups first and generate teams within each group. Names are processed in your browser and are not stored.

Frequently asked questions
What if the numbers do not divide evenly?
The sizes still stay within one person. Twenty-three players in five teams become 5, 5, 5, 4 and 4, which suits a quiz but can be awkward for a sport that needs equal sides. Add a placeholder such as “Substitute” to reach an even total, or change the number of teams.
Can it balance teams by ability?
No, it splits by headcount alone, so a random draw can occasionally put several strong players on one side. Generate the teams and then swap a few names by agreement, or divide the list into skill groups first and generate teams within each group.
Are the names saved anywhere?
No. The list stays in the page, nothing is uploaded, and closing the tab clears it. Paste the names again for a new draw, which also means each generation is independent of the last.
