VAT Calculator

Add or remove VAT using any percentage rate.

Calculations happen locally. We do not send your values to our server.

Example

Adding 20% VAT to a net amount of 100 gives VAT of 20 and a gross amount of 120.

Calculation method

Add mode multiplies the net amount by the rate. Remove mode divides the gross amount by 1 plus the rate to recover net value and VAT.

Important notes

Enter the VAT rate that applies to the transaction. Rates, exemptions, and rounding rules vary between countries and products.

Frequently asked questions

Can this remove VAT from a gross price?

Yes. Select Remove VAT and enter the tax-inclusive amount and applicable percentage rate.

Is VAT the same as sales tax?

They are both consumption taxes, but their legal treatment and calculation rules can differ by country.

Why not subtract 20% from a price that includes 20% VAT?

VAT is 20% of the smaller net value, so removing it requires division by 1.20 rather than subtracting 20%.
