Calculation method

Total minutes equal whole hours multiplied by 60 plus extra minutes. Dividing total minutes by 60 produces decimal hours.

Important notes

Minutes must be between 0 and 59. A decimal hour is a base-10 value and should not be read as hours and clock minutes.

Is 7 hours 45 minutes equal to 7.45 hours?

No. Forty-five minutes is 0.75 hour, so the correct decimal result is 7.75.
